James Adams is a South Australian Screen Awards-nominated writer/director who aims to ground high concepts in fun comedy, tense thrills, and deeply emotional drama. While working on his own projects, he has held various assistant roles for production companies such as We Made A Thing Studios, Beach House Pictures, and ITV Studios. He’s also worked as an additional post producer on Breakout Productions’ Aussie Snake Wranglers, completed 2 mentorships with the AWG, and was a script coordinator attachment on season 3 of the Logie award-winning RFDS, having been selected in a highly competitive process.
His final-year university short, Nature Therapy, was nominated for Best Comedy at the 2021 SASAs and won runner-up student film at the 2022 Sony Catchlight Film Festival. In 2023, his single-take thriller/comedy short, Out With A..., was selected for the Film Concept Lab presentation at the Adelaide Film Festival.
He has just completed his first funded short, Holding Out (produced by Craig Jackson), which was awarded grant funding through the Mercury and SAFC’s Quicksilver Production Fund.
He’s currently developing a range of scripted projects, including a web-series and some features, is in post on a short film he wrote/directed featuring a fight scene stunt-coordinated by Glen Boswell, is coaching four separate kids basketball teams, and is doing a whole lot of additional very cool and very interesting things.
